Visit
We spend time with the children and the people who care for them, so we know their needs firsthand.

Friends For Kids was founded in 2015 by a group of Portland-area friends who were inspired by a visit to Cambodia. Our first partner was ODA, an orphanage and art school in Siem Reap, and we have supported it ever since.
Our purpose is simple: to make a real difference for children who have the least, especially orphans. Wherever our travels take us, we seek out a home or school in need, get to know the people who care for the children, and bring what matters most, from food and beds to hygiene and school supplies. Back in Portland, our art fundraisers and the generosity of our community make it all possible.
In 2014, a group of friends set off on their first backpacking trip through Asia. We traveled with a purpose: to explore new places and meet the people who live there.
Of all the places we visited, Siem Reap, Cambodia stood out. It is one of the poorest nations in the region, yet that never stopped its people from being welcoming, generous and kind. While we were there, we saw the conditions so many children were living in, and we kept asking ourselves the same question: how can we help?
One of us stayed behind a little longer and was fortunate enough to hear about Mr. Leng and his inspiring work helping children through art. With what little money he had, he brought the children candy and toys.
When he shared that story with the rest of us, it inspired us to do more. On the next trip, one of our members gathered friends together and asked them to donate, so we could return to Cambodia and help. Together we brought rice, noodles, cooking oil, hygiene supplies and school supplies for 30 children.
That experience moved all of us. It showed us how much a small group of friends can do, and it inspired us to keep going, not only in Cambodia but in countries around the world.
Travel is exciting. New places, new faces, new friends. But travel can also be inspiring.
Spend time with the locals and you hear their stories. You learn which organizations are quietly helping those in need, and which families are struggling to get by.
From there, all it takes is a group message. Five or ten friends, each willing to give $20, and before you know it, you're filling a shopping cart with rice, diapers and school supplies for a home full of children.

We have supported ODA in Siem Reap since 2015 through art events and community fundraising, helping provide education, shelter and food for children who deserve a better future.
ODA was founded in 2003 by Leng Touch, a survivor of the Khmer Rouge who felt compelled to care for and educate children, as an aunt and uncle had once done for him. He and his wife, SryOn, run tuition-free schools teaching English, computer skills and art to children from subsistence-farming villages.
Art is a core part of an ODA education. It builds creativity and teaches skills students can later use in Cambodia's tourist industry.
We bring ODA students' paintings to Oregon and sell them at our Gallery for Dreams fundraisers. Art sales are one of ODA's most important sources of funding.
Every trip is hands-on. We meet the kids, learn what each home needs, and buy it locally.

From Southeast Asia to Latin America, Africa and the Balkans, these are the orphanages, schools and nonprofits we have supported. Choose a country to see the places and photos.
Many of these places we have not visited just once. We have kept supporting them over the years, and inspired friends and fellow travelers to visit them too.

Over $5,000 raised
Our third Gallery for Dreams, with a new collection of ODA students' paintings.
$9,100 raised
Tumwater donated a third of the evening's wine sales. The money gave 1,450+ kids food, clothes and school supplies.
$5,000 raised
Our first event. The money provided food and medical supplies to children in Cambodia.
Thank you to our event hosts and sponsors: Tumwater Vineyard, Cerulean Wine, Two Bros and Jack, Artisan Real Estate Associates and USnaps.
Alongside Gallery for Dreams, we raise money and supplies for children and families right here in the Portland area.
Project 48
We supported Project 48's first Annual Impact Night, an evening celebrating its impact in the lives of local foster youth.
Albina Head Start
We walked the whole 30.2-mile Wildwood Trail, raising $1 per mile for four local families: clothes, gift cards for essentials and holiday presents.
Oregon wildfire relief
A donation drive for families affected by the Oregon fires, coordinated with Theopilus Church in Milwaukie.
St. Rose School Parish
Money raised went toward band instruments, updating the library and tuition scholarships.
Our work abroad is made possible here at home. Portland friends, neighbors and local businesses fill our Gallery for Dreams evenings, host our events, donate and spread the word.
We are proud to give back to the community that carries our cause. Over the years, we have supported local children and families in need:

Every gift goes to children who have the least.
We are a group of friends and volunteers. When we visit an orphanage or school, we buy what the children need locally and deliver it ourselves: rice and cooking oil, hygiene supplies, beds, diapers and school supplies.
A small amount goes a long way. Five or ten friends giving $20 each can fill a shopping cart for a whole home.
Online giving is being set up. Until then, email friendsforkidspdx@gmail.com and we will tell you how to give.
Friends For Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 82-4883726. Your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Rice, noodles, cooking oil and hot meals for the children in the homes we visit.
Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and diapers.
Books, notebooks and school supplies, so children can keep learning.
Beds, fans and repairs, like the second bathroom we helped build in Kuala Lumpur.
Join us at our next Gallery for Dreams and take home a painting by an ODA student.
Local businesses can host an event or sponsor one, like Tumwater Vineyard and Cerulean Wine have.
Visiting one of the places we support? We will connect you with the people we know there.
